Board Chairman
Nana Professor Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Hiahene, is a globally acclaimed Orthopedic Surgeon, visionary healthcare leader, and respected traditional ruler within the Asante Kingdom of Ghana. As both a celebrated Ghanaian-American physician and the occupant of the revered Hia Stool, Nana Prof. Boachie-Adjei embodies a rare synthesis of medical excellence, cultural leadership, and humanitarian service.
He is internationally renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to spine surgery, particularly in the treatment of scoliosis and complex spinal deformities. His surgical innovations and academic work have earned him numerous global accolades, including prestigious recognitions from the Scoliosis Research Society and multiple international academic and medical institutions.
Trained and educated in the United States, Nana Prof. Boachie-Adjei served as Chief of the Scoliosis Service at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and held a professorial appointment at Weill Cornell Medical College. His career in the U.S. not only advanced the global frontier of orthopedic surgery but also laid the foundation for his enduring commitment to improving healthcare access in Africa.
As Otumfuo Hiahene, he occupies a high-ranking chieftaincy role under the leadership of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene. In this capacity, he plays a vital role in preserving Asante culture, administering customary justice, and guiding development initiatives within his traditional jurisdiction. His leadership reflects a deep commitment to the social, cultural, and economic welfare of Asanteman and Ghana at large.
Central to his legacy is the Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS), a non-profit organization he founded to address the critical lack of advanced orthopedic care in Africa. Through FOCOS, he established the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital in Accra, one of West Africa’s leading institutions for complex spinal and musculoskeletal care. Under his leadership, the hospital has provided thousands of surgeries to patients from underserved communities, often at subsidized or no cost, while simultaneously training African medical professionals and leading community health education.
He is also Asantehene’s special representative on the Heal Komfo Anokye Project (HEKAP) team which is overseeing the implementation of the Asantehene’s flagship project towards the renovation and modernization of the old “GEE Blocks.”
By 2024, Nana Prof. Boachie-Adjei had already made significant strides in surgical outreach, capacity building, and healthcare infrastructure development. His work in 2025 is projected to have further strengthened these efforts through expanded partnerships, hospital development, and youth mentorship, although detailed updates are temporarily unavailable due to a system issue.
In acknowledgement of his stature and contributions to the medical profession and national development, he was made the Chairman of the 7th Board of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital ( KATH) which was inaugurated on 2nd May, 2025
