Board Member
Dr.(Med) Paa Kwesi Baidoo assumed office as the new Ag. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital following his nomination by the President of the Republic of Ghana and subsequent appointment to the position by the Board of the hospital on 5th May 2025. He brings to the role a distinguished track record as a consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, and a union leader in the Ghanaian medical community. Until his appointment, he was the Head of the Directorate of Trauma and Orthopaedics at KATH and the Ashanti Divisional Chairman of the Ghana Medical Association.
Dr.(Med) Baidoo’s career spans nearly two decades of clinical, surgical, academic, and administrative excellence. He has served KATH across various roles, from house officer to attending orthopedic surgeon and now, CEO demonstrating unwavering commitment to medical service and institutional development. He is also an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the Department of Surgery, School of Medical Sciences (SMS), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
An alumnus of the KNUST, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Human Biology in 2002 and MBChB in 2005. He undertook his residency training in general surgery and orthopedics through both the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) and the West African College of Surgeons (WACS), completing senior residency at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra. He is therefore a fellow of both GCPS and WACS.
Dr. Baidoo’s postgraduate and international training is extensive and prestigious. He has been a fellow and trainee at renowned institutions in the United States, including the Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute (Florida), Nemours Children’s Hospital (Delaware), the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics (Maryland), and the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital (Texas). He also trained at the Anterior Hip Foundation in Nashville, Tennessee, and participated in the SIGN Fracture International Conference and IGOT SMART Course at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
In 2024, he was awarded the highly competitive Buckle Fellowship by the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society (LLRS), marking him as one of only three global recipients of the Pediatric Travel Fellowship that year. His expertise includes sports medicine, arthroscopy, limb reconstruction, and pediatric orthopedics.
A seasoned academic, Dr. Baidoo has contributed to over 17 peer-reviewed publications and presented at numerous international conferences including the Orthopedic Trauma Association Annual Meetings in the USA, and the West African College of Surgeons conferences across the continent. He has also participated in international multicenter collaborations such as the INORMUS study, further cementing his role as a global thought leader in orthopedic trauma care.
He serves on multiple professional committees including the Council and Negotiations Committee of the Ghana Medical Association, and is a faculty member with the AO Foundation/AO Alliance Foundation. His affiliations span the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA), AO Trauma, and Ghana’s Medical and Dental Council.
Dr. Baidoo’s editorial contributions include reviewing for the African Journal of Emergency Medicine, BMC Pediatrics, the Postgraduate Medical Journal of Ghana, and serving as Editor of The Mediscope Journal at KNUST. His dedication to capacity building is reflected in his role as faculty for regional IGOT and SIGN trauma courses in East and Central Africa.
Recognized for both academic and athletic achievements, he has received numerous awards including best paper awards at international trauma forums and multiple sports medals in rugby and handball.
Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo brings to the CEO position at KATH an unmatched blend of clinical expertise, international exposure, academic depth, and visionary leadership — all of which position him to lead Ghana’s second largest hospital into a new era of excellence.
